Model/Manufacturer: HP Deskwriter 600

I believe I have a deskwriter 600, thats what it was sold to me as, I bought a black ink cartridge: Replaces HP 51629A compatible with hp dw 600.
It fits into the slot but does not click into place when I push it in, it just stays loose, is it supposed to click into place, when I press the prime button a red error light shows after it primes.
