Original Message

Subject: Powermac G4 Compatibility Question
OS: Mac OS X 10.0.3
CPU/Ram: 256 RAM
Model/Manufacturer: Apple Powermac G4
Comment:
I'm buying my first Mac and I found a Powermac G4 450mhz on Ebay at a great price. My question is will my Proview 986 19 Inch Monitor work with this system? I have the DVI to VGA adapter already, but I'm not sure if the Powermac G4 will work with this monitor and I'd appreciate any feedback.

The G4/450 has a VGA or DVD-D connection.

the lynch pin of your dilema is really at what resolution it
will work (ie how much RAM does it have). it IS worth
buying a 32mb RAM video card if you don't already have
this. your 450 will run best on 10.3, but at a push can do
10.4

both versions have version tracker to tell you info about
your graphics card. i recently put a 32mb graphics card in
a 450 and it made a big difference.

the card is:
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX:
Chipset Model: GeForce2 MX
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
VRAM (Total): 32 MB

and it runs a 23" Apple Display. Oh the pleasure of it all...

or Utilitites folder - in OS 9 in the Apple Menu)
