What would make my PowerMac 5500 lock up all the time? I have re-installed the operating system and it still does it.. The mouse cursor will stop and all.. I need this thing working cause it's gonna be traded for an iMac..

I had a 6500 that had that problem, even after a clean install, and it appeared that unmatched RAM was the culprit..the 6500 (and 5500, which is essentially the same machine with a built-in monitor) are real finicky about what RAM they are using..not only *must* it be EDO, but if the strips aren't exactly matched, you can get freezes or worse.... Even tho I had two strips the same size (64MB) they were slightly different from each other, so two of the same size isn't necessarily matched enough. Since you just want to sell it, you naturally don't want top start shelling out for ram, but a couple of 16 MB EDO's might be really easy to get for next to nothing, as just nobody wants memory that small anymore..at least you could see if it fixes the problem (which i suspect it might...)
