Is it possible to download a piece of software for Mac on a PC running XP and save it onto a floppy disk and open it on a PowerBook 280c running 7.1.1. I have already opened a windows floppy disk on my PowerBook and it showed the names of the files but was unable to open it's contents. Thanks.

Hmmm...you present an interesting problem. A few issues might occur. OS 7.1.1 is very old. It was released in May of 1991. This means you are dealing with an OS that is 12-15 years old. Most things you will find today are not compatible with something that old.
Now, assuming that you have been able to open anything transferred from the PC to your PowerBook (a valid test to see if the process works) then either your PowerBook cannot read properly the Window's formatted floppy or the files themselves are incompatible.
