My Powerbook G4 worked fine until one day it stopped recognizing CDs or my flashdrive. Now it doesn't start. It spends a long time at the grey apple screen and finally freezes at the blue screen (although the rainbow-color cursor continues to spin). Someone told me that there is probably some file corruption and that I can fix the problems using the restore/install disc, but when it asks me to select a destination drive, there is nothing to select on the screen. What do I do?

After booting from the OS X CD, open the Installer Menu
at top of screen to Disk utility and run Repair disk on your
disk.
