Comment: Hi folks, A friend of mine was given a Powerbook G3 with MacOS8.1 that isn't booting to Finder and asked me to have a look at it. What happens is when you startup, the Smiley Mac face appears and then the MacOS logo appears. It takes about 5 minutes for it to change to the Startup Bar and a further 5 minutes for the Finder to appear. A message then says " System Error, please restart'. I have tried booting up with Extensions off and the same thing happens. I cannot boot from cd-rom as the Powerbook only has a floppy drive attatched and my friend doesn't have a cd-rom unit for it. I thought of maybe making a bootable floppy, using a cutdown System Folder, but even the smallest I got get was too big for a floppy :o( Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

Reply: (edit)Unfortunately, there may be no way you can bootit unless you can get hold of a cd-rom module. I dont think apple's network boot floppy would work on this machine, although you could try it by having a look here: http://mes.emuunlim.com/bin/disk_utilities/Network_Access_Disk_7.5.sea.hqx that way, you could do a network boot and link with another mac good luck
