Hello,
I have Mac question. I own an old Mac machine (PowerBook Firewire) bought in 2000.
I wanted to change two things: memory and hard drive (HD). I know how to change these parts and was very careful.
I first changed the old memory (128 MB RAM) to a new one (512 MB RAM) and it worked well. I could see the new memory upgraded.
Secondly I installed a new 20 GIG HD on the machine. After that I tried to install the operating system (Mac OS 9) using the CD. Obviously I can’t start the machine since there is no OS so I was using the Install Software CD to install it. So everything was ok (I was able to start the computer with the CD and then click the install button which gave me four option in which #4 was to install) but when it came to Select Destination (choose a disk to install the software) I could not see/able to select a destination. It said: A valid destination volume can’t be found. I tried to continue the installation process anyway until I could no longer to continue. At this stage it said: The disk “PowerBook Install CD” could not be checked. No Destination Disk has been chosen. So what do you think I should? Or what did I do wrong?
Help please.
I am in Malawi, Central Africa
Regards,
mf

Did you format the drive before you ran the OS installer?
If not, start up from the CD and look for Drive Setup (or Disk Utility, in later versions) and use that to initialize the drive and install any OS 9 drivers that are needed. The new drive should then show up in the installer, and the installation should go ahead.
