I have an old powerbook 5300c that is having a
problem starting.. sometimes it will start but after
the happy mac face it turns off, and sometimes it
just will not start at all. Any ideas? could it be a
power supply problem or is it dead?

Seems the solder has come loose on the
motherboard where the power input goes.. took
the whole thing apart and tried resoldering... its
better, but still slightly wiggly... so every once in a
while it turns off... any suggestions? is it worth it to
try to fix?

If you're handy with a soldering iron, fixing it is about a 30-minute repair, most of which is disassembly.

If you aren't, tell me how much shipping is and I'll take it off your hands.

Key word there being "had." The REA on the 5300s expired at the end of 1999, IIRC.

Good luck fixing it yourself though :)

UPDATE

I tried resoldering the piece securely to the
motherboard with no luck

I ended up buying a new male and female
adapter thing at radio shack for $4
i cut off the end of the ac cord and put the new
male end on, and desoldered the original female
end on the logic board, then soldered 3 wires in
the holes where it came from... those 3 wires went
to the new female end which i melted into the
back of the powerbook casing... looked kinda
funny but it worked a LOT better than the original
