My old reliable PMac 8500 won't boot. I turn it on, it
chimes, displays a grey screen with a locked up cursor
and that is it. It won't boot from the hard drive, from a
TechTool Pro 3.0.4 CD while I hold down the C key or
from an old floppy w/ OS 6.0.8 on it. It won't react to any
of my attempts--it just gives me grey.

I am going to trouble shoot the DIMMs and reset the
PRAM w/ the CUDA (?) button in the process but this is all
I can think to do. Any other thoughts?

Check the battery. The symptoms you described are typical of a dead battery.

Kevin, you are probably right. I did the trouble shooting
before I read your message--no progress. After reading
your message, I pulled the battery and tested it--.03 V on
my multitester. I will get a new battery tomorrow and let
you know what happens.

Thank you for your help.
