Is there a maximum number of fonts that photoshop can load?

I've never heard of there being one. Photoshop should find whatever fonts you have in your system folder plus the fonts you have turned on in ATM, or whatever your font manager is. As a sidenote, it's never a good idea to load very many fonts in your system folder and you should only turn on the fonts you're using in ATM. Too many fonts will slow you down and can cause you to lock up.

Well said. Definitely use a font management tool, and create/enable 'sets' as you need them. Make sure when you create them that they don't LOAD ON STARTUP.

There's a limit on the number of files you can have open at any one time, or used to be in the Classic Mac OS, and likewise with the number of fonts. I think it was somewhere in the neighbourhood of 192.

My illustrator 10 reads all my fonts(about 900 mb of fonts)),but photoshop 7 only reads about 1/4 of them. Also I have my fonts in the folder(library/ application support/adobe/fonts//reqrd/base),if I put that many with my systems fonts every app crashes when I try to open it.
