I recently crashed and when i reboot i get the question mark. no startup disk message..i insert my utilities disk, and it starts to go and then tells me of an illegal command system error. I accidently hit command-restart instead of command-option-restart and got a "mocking" musical note and a dead "x-eyeed" Mac with 0000000F and 0000000D written under it...i'm going to try to reinsert my ram chips. i read that the 0000000F error is common for that..but please offer your suggestions. it looks like this....Sort of. _________ | | | x x | | --- | --------- | | ------- 000000F 000000D

The performa series was plauged by problems in it's formidable task of crossing the boundaries between Quadras and PPC's. Pull a search at the apple website for (i forget the name of it) but it checks the motherboard for certain (warranty covered) production flaws. Your's may be in this lot. Other than that, keep giving it hard boots (cntl, cmnd, pwr) or even unplugging the power in between tries, and IF/WHEN it comes up.....backup your data and Low Level format (use the latest disktools) and reinstall the OS. The cables to the HD may be loose, and if you have been mucking around in there you may want to check them.
Summary: I have a Performa 550 and the computer turns on then comes to a window that says "Sorry, a system error ocurred "HP Background" error type 41 What should I do?...
