How do I connect a PC and a MAC together using ethernet? We both have the right cards but we can't find each other! What is DAVE?

'DAVE' is s/w you run on the Mac side to connect, 'PC/MAC LAN' is s/w you run on the PC side. You need one or the other, not both. Dave has free trial download on the internet.

It works great. The free trial of PCMACLAN works for 180 mins but pops up a thing every ten or so that pisses you off! :P
I could take stuff from him but we didn't know about DAVE until after they were about to leave! www.pcmaclan.com i think is where i got it!

We have 2 PCs and 2 Macs. Our most current Mac is a PowerPC 6500/300
and is connected to a cable modem (has ethernet connection). One PC has an
ethernet card and one doesn't, neither does the older Mac.
I would like to make a network between all 4 computers. I want to be able
to have them all access the cable modem without having the cost of installing
and subscribing to separate cable connections.

What harware and/or software do I need?
Please reply via email, just in case I don't find this site again.

Hardware :
1) Hub
2) Ethernet Cables

For the computer connecting to the Cable modem, either Mac or PC, it must have 2 ethernet cards. IP NetRouter is the best option for Mac as a IP Masquerade.

But my opinion is to make a low-end PC running Linux, and make a firewall with it. For Redhat 6.0 and above, you just need to tweak a little bit and you'll have your whole network all connected to the Internet.

I think this is a good starter Linux firewall guide
