I am looking for a step to step explaination on how to connect my imac (os9) to my pc (win2000 pro), I have them connected using a hub, the leds on it are blinking but they don't talk to each other. I don't want to use pcmaclan or dave. Is this possible ?

No, they use incompatible network protocols, so the only way for your mac to see your peecee or vice versa is to use a software link (ie. DAVE for Mac or MacLAN for Peecee). However, as I am not a network expert, there may well be other solutions based around the TCP/IP protocol that might do the trick.

Only way to connect your mac with your PC is use maclan for PC. I`ve got the same problem, i can`t connect mac with my win 2000pro. Only way is to install Windows Advanced Server 2000, it supports appletalk protocol.

OK - I've managed to get a G4 Mac and a Windows 98 PC talking to each other. It's a bit messy but if you only need it to transfer files then it's fine. You need to ensure that both the MAC and PC are connected on a hub. I'm assuming that were just talking about 2 machines here so - 1. give your mac and PC their own IP addresses. 2. give them the same subnet mask (mail me if you can't do the above) then test the connection by pinging the mac from the PC - you should get a reply from the mac. 3. you then need to use the PC FTP command from the DOS prompt, making the destination the mac's ip address. 4. Make sure that you enables file sharing for all on the mac (if you run cubase, you could have probs) 5.if all goes well you should be able to do a DIR from the FTP prompt and navigate your way around the mac through DOS.

Try a program called Stargate!! You can get it from: http://www.home.aone.net.au/krs You will need to download the Mac AND PC versions. The Readme file will tell you how to connect your PC and Mac for file transfers. Hope it answers your question.

I have the same problem MAC OS9 > Win2000 Pro...Spent HOURS trying configurations...Pinged the MAC no problem, but can't 'see' the PC in MAC Networking and can't 'see' the MAC in Network I have APPLETALK installed,it comes with Win2kPro for those who didn't know. The problem is that file sharing software needs to be installed on the MAC as well, and the IMAC only has a CD drive. Is there a way to burn a disc on the PC that the IMAC will read?

the key is apple talk protocol on a nt server then a ntfs partition the two can now interact when you go to chooser on the mac (you need a server to set up a lan unless you want a workgroup) the server will provide the list of availible pc,s double click one and if you have 8.5 or higher it will but a uam file on your desktop open this and launch the uam install this installs the usar authentication for microsoft uam and allows a network login mind you it will only see volumes that are ntfs and that have been specified as a (mac ) share you also need the apple talk protocol on the server (you'll see the printers as well)
