OS: ? I'm a Mac Newbie
CPU/Ram: It's a G3
Comment:

I'm trying to connect a PC monitor (originally from a Compaq Presario, the monitor model is MV520) to a Mac G3 using a DB15 Male to SVGA HD15 Female adapter. I'm getting an "out of range" message from my monitor. I flashed the PRAM but that didn't help. The adapter has 10 dip switches but I don't have the manual so I don't know what the proper settings should be. And yes, the system works OK with a Mac monitor. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You kinda have to fool with the dip switches until you get any kind of a picture- even a grey screen is a good start..then you can tweak it up..trial and error..
As to the 'out of range'...i suspect your G3 is set to some resolution the monitor cant seem to handle (maybe one of those odd mac-specific ones )..try setting it to the lowest standard resolution (e.g. 640x480) and 16 colors, first, using a mac monitor, then try the pc monitor again with those settings..you can always set it back afterwards(whatever the monitor will do)
Frankly, my experience is limited to using pc monitors with non-powermacs (i'm using one now on my centris, as my powermac got the apple one, of course...) , and it did take me quite a while to set up..works great now...
trial and error...
