Comment: I have a ibook 466 dvd with 192 RAM. How would I set up new partitions and can I load different operating systems onto each of the partitions so I can have 2 operating systems. I want to have the option to choose either MacOS 9 or Mac OSX. I know you can do this with windows. Thanks for the help!

Reply: (edit)To get multiple partitions you will have to use apples Drive Setup util and re-initialize your hard drive. During the reinit setup you will have to select options for how many partitions and what sizes you want. The reinit will wipe all your HD info as you may have expected. You will have to reinstall the OS and all apps/utils/data. As far as toggling the boot-up between 9 and X I think there are options in X that allow that without going through any partitioning. Look into it. Partioning is a good thing ANYWAY, as it lessens the blow of fragmentation on the sectors containing the OS and the application files. Setting your browser cache, or scratch disks, and working storage to one or more (lets say) 2 gig partitions allow the fragmentation to accumulate there where you may easily re-initialize it away. Browser cache, though it may be set very low, is still writing/purging/rewriting constantly, and fragmentation is globally CUMULATIVE!

Reply: (edit)actually this is not an answer but a question. Recently my boyfriend tried to install lynux PPC on my 3400c PB. It was against my wished and he has been dumped. However he could not repare the mistake he made. He erased the boot sector as with all other partitions and formatted computer improperly. I used Norton Sys Wrks to re-format drive but I can not load up set up utilities onto computer. Nor will OS 9.1 disc (which was on there before this mess) load up. I get to 'welcome to OS 9.1' screen then the error pops up "this computer can not install this system. Please find newer installer and retry." stumped Lilana
