I was curious to know if partitioning 9.1 and OSX on Macintosh HD is a good idea. I use 9.1 a lot and am very comfortable with it but hear so many good things about OSX that I figure that I should put it on my system so that I can begin getting used to it.

What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of partitioning v.s. non partitioning?

What is the suggested size of the partition? (I know a lot of people say its preference but just as a general rule what is suggested??? 50/50?) I read that a lot of people were saying that the partition for OSX should be bigger than OS9. If I am planning on using OS9 more often is it recommended that I make the OS9 partition bigger or not?

Thanks!

I recently made the move from 9 to X and picked up some good advice here on the forum before I paritioned. Suggestions :

*Back up anything you don't want to lose, because it'll be gone after your wipe the drive and make separate partitions.

*Devote most of the HD to X. Unless you still do a lot of work in OS 9 or have a huge software investment, make the OS 9 volume relative small. On my 20 GB drive, I allowed around 2GB for OS 9.

*If you're working with video & sound, maybe you want a seperate volume for those files as well.

*Keep in mind, while you can run many OS 9 apps in X's "classic" environment, many programs will NOT run correctly unless booted in OS 9.

*Once partitioned you can choose your your boot volume at startup with the "option" key trick. This is very handy.

*If one OS crashes...you've got the other to help recover.
