We have some users who send attachments (.doc;.jpg etc) to design companies who are running MACs and they recieve the email but it has no attachments at all. It works fine to other people who are running other mail clients (eg. Outlook, Outlook Express etc) just not to a MAC PC

I can't address anything Mac-specific since I don't know much about them, but I have seen this before on PCs. Someone using Outlook 2000 complained that certain people would get the attachment and other ones didn't. I looked around the settings on the sending machine's Outlook and found that her mail format was set to RTF I believe. Setting it to either plain text (my preference) or HTML cured it. Hope this helps.
