Comment: I have a strange problem. I realized that my exchange server was being used to send out SMTP spam bigtime. So I used routing retrictions to send email only from our network computers. It works fine if not for the fact that outlook from MAC's cannot connect to it. I get a message saying "network is having problems or exchange is down for performance". I tried using entourage but I can only receive emails on the MACS as entourage tries to use the internet to connect to the exchange and the restrictions I have placed dont allow anything outside the network to send emails. I dont understand why outlook will not recognize the server. Any suggestions. Thanks, Ram.

Reply: (edit)you need to get a copy of oe5.0.4 which will give you a preferences option to enable smtp authorization. unfortunately microsoft had this version on their downloads site only for a short time (or so i believe). from what i've gathered they stopped serving it online and instead now only offer a free mac version which requires using a microsoft (msn) server. imagine that. the smtp auth issue apparently came up (ironically) because of all the emailer viruses plaguing the windows world and clogging isp pipelines. all this happened over the last few months. (Spring 02) microsoft may still have a usable version available somewhere but i haven't been able to find one. it may be time to revisit eudora. if i'm wrong about this i apologize to bill gates and his cronies.
