Outlook 2001 w/out MS Exchange Server?

Hello all,
I am fairly frustrated with the lack of powerful tools in entourage--no calendar format printing, no printing by category, no ability to print custom views, etc.
I was hoping to use MS Outlook 2001 instead. My office currently does not use an exchange server, but may in the future (another reason for Outlook). Is there anyway to use Outlook without exchange? I can't even get into the program without verification of the server.
