Just found out after two weeks of constant
trying that you can't use eBay anymore
unless you upgrade to OSX.
Anybody else hear this?

It is nothing to do with OS9 par se, it is the browser not supporting the language etcetcetc the web pages are written in.

Tried iCab, Internet Explorer, Netscape
and every other browser available.
None of them work correctly.
(iCab is majorly slow and buggy on
classic OS9 anyways)It may be the browser that's at fault, but
since there is no browser that actually
works with eBay anymore, it means that
you have to upgrade to OSX.

You people have obviously never heard of Wamcom (wamcom.org). It's a custom build of Mozilla Suite 1.3a (only made stable and has some features taken from the 1.4 build). It's losing support on a lot of websites, mainly those that use a lot of Java (since Java for OS 9 is stuck at v2.5.5). But, still the majority of websites work with it AOK. Including eBay.
Slim Vision

I access eBay every day with Mac OS9.
It is the browser that you are using.
Netscape will NOT work on eBay
anymore. NS 4.7 is latest browser for
OS9 and it does not work with eBay.I access eBay using IE 5.1, which is the
latest IE that will run on OS9, and I have
no problems other that slowness of
dialup connection, SO FAR AS OF TEN
MINUTES AGO, although I can see that
soon I won't be able to access eBay
anymore and will be forced to DELIST
over 700 listings, costing eBay AT LEAST
$150 per month, as well as costing me
hundreds of dollars per month. I have
already been forced to delist over a
hundred listings and am looking at paring
it down to around 400 listings MAXIMUM.I am already working on a backup plan
that EXCLUDES eBay from ALL of my
sales, and in the long run INCREASES
my sales without the limitations of eBay,
including their assinine insistance that
people with older browsers don't buy my
products. At least half of my sales come
from people with older browsers and
eBay has just CUT MY SALES while at the
SAME time raised what I have to pay them
buy FIVE HUNDRED PERCENT (500%)!!!!That has got to be the MOST STUPID
thing eBay has ever done. And in a year
of so it WILL show up on their bottom line.
Only by then I should be history at eBay,
not needing them, not wanting them, and
surely not paying them OUTRAGEOUS
prices for CHASING MY BUYERS AWAY!!!!My website is already ALWAYS in the top
ten out of millions on Google (and usually
#1), so I am working on a plan to take
advantage of that by listing TENS of
THOUSANDS of items on my website, as
opposed to a measly 700 on eBay.One thing you can do is send your
complaints to this address:
billcobb@ebay.com. eBay is a business
in business to make money. If they think
that they will lose a lot of business by
keeping up with the 'latest & greatest',
they may rethink their position and redo
their pages.I have in the past been able to convince
them that they would lose too many
customers when they made a change,
and they have reversed their changes. So
far not enough people have contacted
them with valid info to get them to change
this.Basically, I tell them that the eBay buyers
and sellers do NOT NEED the latest &
greatest. Instead we NEED pages that
WORK. As a seller I CANNOT afford to
exclude potential buyers. Neither can
eBay. Unfortunately, the IT people are in
love with the changes and unless
someone in charge looks at the bottom
line the IT people will continue to exclude
more and more customers until eBay
goes bankrupt UNLESS someone high
on the totem pole puts a stop to it.Basically the IT people love to make
changes just because they CAN make
changes. They NEVER look at what it is
doing to the business or the customers
and vendors of the business. They seem
to think that everyone can afford to buy the
latest computers every time a new one
comes out. I CAN'T AFFORD TO SPEND
TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
EVERY YEAR TO KEEP UP WITH THE
LATEST AND GREATEST and NEITHER
CAN MY CUSTOMERS. Basically, my
business, and ALL successful
businesses operate on the principle of IF
IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. eBay's IT
department DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE
that forcing customers and vendors to go
elsewhere puts THEIR jobs at risk. The above address goes directly to the
office of Bill Cobb, the HIGHEST shaker
and mover in eBay. Convince him that
there is a problem and things will
change.GOOD LUCK.
