How can I upgrade from OS 10.0.4 to 10.1
The Download section on the apple website it is so confusing I start to think it's done like this on purpose so people buy the upgrade instead of just downloading it!!!

Please help!

You need the combined 10.0.1 updater and the Installer Update first, and then the rest of them should work.

Use the Software Update preference. It's all there.

Gio,

Didn't your dad ever tell you:
Don't sh*t where you eat.

You don't HAVE to use it. If you hate it so
much then give it to someone who will
enjoy it. Or sell it and buy the computer of
your choosing.

I read that yesterday and called a few mac retailers and they all told me that I should be able to just download the updates from the website but I am still running in circles!!

Letz hope someone here can help otherwise I have my sledgehammer ready for the "trendy box" to have a taste!!!

Hey giove. I tried the same thing (download at work, on windose then bring it home on CD). It doesn't work. Here's why:

The problem stems from the way the Mac OS stores files. There are two components: the data fork and the resource fork.

The data fork is, you guessed it, the actual data within the file you need/want. The resource fork is a description of the method needed to access the data (more or less). When you pull something down on a PC, you
only get the data fork. The MacOS can tell by looking at the file that StuffIt will open it, but stuffit is lacking the particulars about how to uncompress the file.

So long story short is you need to download straight to the Mac. I brought mine into work today, hooked it up to the ethernet here and downloaded the OSX 10.1.5 update combo, iPhoto and iTunes 3. That would have taken about 6 hours at home (56k).

You actually don't need to download on the Mac; you just need to download files that will remain intact (i.e., files with no resource forks) on the PC.
