original beige g3 233 upgraded w/ powerlogix 466 zif card running
at 433 b/c it's more stable.
pci video card: rage orion.
usb card: not sure what brand, but my usb microsoft optical
mouse is recognized during os x installation, so i assume it's
compatible.
2 partitions on 8 gb western digital HD (taken from my
brother's old PC, maybe firmware problem?): 1.2 gb for os
9/rest for os x. made the os x partition on the first part of the
drive when i formatted with drive setup (just in case).
checked to see what bus the HD and DVD-rom (purchased
from OWC) was using. HD is bus 0 and DVD is bus 1 (i
read somewhere on this forum that not having the HD on bus
0 might cause a problem on os x installation?).
external scsi cd-r (plextor).i've tried to install os x many times this past week, and i keep
running into the same problem (it won't boot!). it always
finishes installing the 1st cd then starts back up on os 9 (i
heard that it's supposed to ask for the 2nd cd after restart after
installing the 1st cd). then i set the startup disk to the os x
partition and it boots back up w/ os 9. can't seem to think of
what could be causing this. i've tried resetting the pram at
least 5x. then tried taking the battery out. tried installing it
onto the original HD that was shipped with the computer
(same problem). anyone have any idea why it's not finishing
the installation? thanks.

this might sound weird but I had a similar problem
and the only way I was able to install is making the
first partition exactally 8gig and everything seemed
to work. You might also check some of the earlier entries on
Beige G3. The ROM revision C seems to be the best
bet to run OSX. No guarantees but it works for mine

does xpostfacto affect the performance of os x at all?
10.1 worked on my computer before, so i'm figuring that 10.2 should install too...
i'm not sure which rom rev my g3 is, but i think it's one of the first ones made. i ordered it in 98 when it first came out, so i'm thinking rev A (?).

Use Apple System Profiler to check the ROM checksum and then throw that number into Google to determine the revision.
