I'm running mac os 9.2.2 Dutch version
on a 733Mhz G4 with Lite-on CDRW and
250 MB zip, two RAM disks (DIMM 128 MB
& 256 MB), and an NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX
Graphics card. I use a LaCie
electron19blue screen.
Can't seem to install Jaguar (Mac Os X
10.2) beyond the first disk.
Installing the first disk goes okay (if a little
fast) but when my computer restarts it
boots to a grey screen with the grey apple
logo.
I can option-boot into Mac Os 9.2.2 (which
I have on a different partition) but even as
I can recognize the Mac Os X disk (which
is version 10.0 according to the mac os
9.2.2 finder), I cannot boot from that disk.
I've never been able to install install disk
2, but installing mac os x public beta went
flawless.
AFAIK I've updated all firmware and tried
installing disconnecting as much as
possible (though I don't like tinkering too
much)... I tried every official trick in the
book.
I checked in the shop and they did a clean
install on one of their macs to see if there
was any trouble, so the disk is ok
I have removed OS X beta (as someone
proposed this to be the problem)
I've erased and reinstalled Jaguar and os
9 in about 8 different configurations
(same partition, os x in the first eight GB
of the disk, inverse, os 9 in two
partitions,...) I tried just installing the stuff
from the first disc to see if I could at least
boot into Jaguar, as the stuff on the 2nd
disc is just filler (iApps, Printer Drivers,
etc....), but apparently something goes
awry in the first disk.
I checked the log and it gives some errors
after which it says "could not install file
.....etcetera"
So it must be read/write related I guess...
any other ideas?
I guess the things it mucks up while
installing disk one are so bad it can't go
on installing disk 2...
It's a pity it still tells me about the "install
completed successfully!"
Above I spoke about the the errors I found
in the logs, ...
I've been able to write some bribes of the
errors swooshing by in the install log...
After creating temporary folders, and
"Activating VM" (whatever that means) I
get ERROR: (null) - pax: error 22: Failed
to write
/Volumes/SkekSis1/./System/Library/Fra
meworks/ApplicationServices.framework/
Versions/A/Frameworks/LangAnalysis.fra
mework/ver
then it gets off the viewable area.
Please note that SkekSis is the name of
the partition I'm installing Mac OS X upon.
(but NOT SkekSis1, though!!!)
Then it says it's unable to write:...
configurationfile/Volumes/SkekSis1/var/d
b/.AppleMultiCDInstall
...which explains why it doesn't ask the
2nd CD!
Can anyone think of a
solution/workaround/explanation
concerning the error 22 "(null)"?????
