Subject: OS X Install - Help! OS: OS X CPU/Ram: Fast, i think...

Comment: Hello, I am PC guy with barely any MAC experience. So, I decided to help a friend by installing OS X on their i-Book. Great idea, right!?! Wrong!!! The original OS on this system was version 9 before I started the upgrade. The install seemed to be going great, until the computer wanted to restart in order to boot up into the new and improved operating system. That's where the problem occurred. The smily face computer guy looked like he was ready to boot, when all of a sudden I got a slew of text across the screen (similar-looking to MS-DOS on a PC). Apparently, the i-Book went into panic mode. During boot it now reads "unable to find driver for this platform: Powerbook 4.1." The next notice says "debugger not found" followed by what appears to be error codes. The final notice says "panic: hanging here." So, now I'm stuck with a computer with no operating system. Please help me bring my friend's computer back to life! Thanks in advance for any help! Signed, The PC Guy

Reply: (edit)Sounds like a UNIX kernal panic. With the CD in the drive, press and hold C on start up. It will boot from the CD again. Try installing it again. ----paxcirc.a-

Reply: (edit)You might also try and see if there is a firmware update for the i-book using OSX. Also make sure that you have OS9 updated to 9.2.2 dont worry you shouldn't lose any information it sounds like just a bad install.
