I'm not a big-time Mac user, but I do use a G4 at work for Digidesign's Pro Tools 5.1.1 LE in OS 9.2.2. Gradually going to shift everything over to OS X Jaguar and Pro Tools LE 6.0. I installed Jaguar and Pro Tools 6.0, and use the "Startup Disk" in both OS's to toggle between the two when I need to boot to one or the other.

Here's the problem. Pro Tools 6.0 ONLY works in OS X Jaguar. Fine, no issue with that. However, I installed Pro Tools 6.0 while booted into Jaguar. Everything installed fine. Jaguar installs Apps into the "Applications" folder. Pro Tools in OS 9 simply installed into the System Drive's root folder (whatever it's called; what I mean is it did not install into an Applications subfolder).

Whenever I boot into OS 9.2.2, my Pro Tools icons show the new colors of Pro Tools 6. Clicking on them gives me an error message about requiring OS X to run Pro Tools 6. Remember, though, these icons were for Pro Tools 5.1.1.

So, even though OS 9.2.2 shouldn't even know anything about Pro Tools 6 being installed (in the Jaguar's application folder), it nevertheless now associates all my 5.1.1 Pro Tools alias icons and Apple Menu items with Pro Tools 6.

Yes, I can manually start the actual 5.1.1 application by scrolling through the hard drive's folders, but that's not the point. The point is I want OS 9.2.2 to keep the association to Pro Tools 5.1.1, NOT Pro Tools 6.0.

I've already looked at a utility that can alter the content/creator codes, but both versions of Pro Tools use the same codes. That would be of no use to me.

Question: How do I get my OS 9.2.2 to associate my Pro Tools aliases with Pro Tools 5.1.1, which is what it should have done all along?

What may also complicate the issue is that I have a multiple user setup on OS 9.2.2, and, of course, it puts everyone but the original user into the "Users" folder. OS X Jaguar uses the same folder for its users as well.
Could that have anything to do with it?

I found this problem first cropped up when I installed Pro Tools 6 in Jaguar, then opened up a previous Pro Tools session that I had created in Pro Tools 5.1.1. After that, whenever I booted into OS 9.2.2, the icons were changed and would not start Pro Tools 5.1.1, but would generate the error message noted above.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Here's a guess that *might* work.

Try moving the Pro Tools 6 app to another disk and deleting it from the first one. Unmount the backup disk and rebuild the desktop on the main disk. Then put Pro Tools 6 back where it was before.

That will probably work, but it may introduce the problem of all your Pro Tools files opening in v5, which will probably require Classic under OS X.

Best solution would just be to put an alias to Pro Tools 5 on the desktop in OS 9 and drag files you want to open onto that icon.
