How close OSx is to linux knowing that OSx is based on Unix.

Close enough that a lot of programs for Linux can be *very* easily ported to OS X, and some work with just a simple recompile.

Rough guess: 90% of it works identically, yes. After all, OS X *is* BSD UNIX.
