CPU/Ram: 2.33Ghz P4/512MB

I recently was given an HP laptop. However, I really hate windows and have a few Macs. The laptop is fairly new and in good shape. My question is can I wipe the hard drive and stick OSX on there or would this just turn out a a big disaster? Thanks

You have to have a MAC for OS X.
