i've been a bonehead and reinstalled my
mac with os x 10.1.3 without installing os
9.2.2 first

basically, can i install classic support or
do i have to reinstall the mac again?

You can install MacOS 9.1 after and OS X install, BUT,
there are less issues if done the other way.
