I just purchased a used OS 9.1 Upgrade CD from eBay under the impression that I could use it from OS 8.6. Even in the Read Me file in the CD, it says you can use the CD to upgrade to 9.1 from OS 8.5 or higher. However, when I run the installation, I get a message saying that OS 9 must be installed to run this update. The only option I have is to click 'Back' and exit out of the installer. Does anyone happen to know what might be going on? Or did I get bamboozled?? Any responses would be much appreciated!
No, I was unable to boot from the CD. At least not by holding down c during boot up. I don't know if there's another way to try this. I have a beige G3 MT 266.
The Read Me file in the CD says you can upgrade from anything higher than 8.5. Does this sound like a typo?
Is it even worth trying to contact Apple? Especially since I bought this used.
Thanks for the responses

OK, there should be some sort of version indicator on the CD somewhere, like "9.0.4J" or "8.6I" or the like. See if you can find this, and see what it says...
The seller got back to my complaints and he has offered to exchange the disk. So I am going to take that route. We'll see what happens when I get the new disk. Hopefully I won't be back on here with the same problem. Thanks, Pickle, for your help.
