You can find some good and some bad
instructions on the web for opening an iMac. The
good ones are at
http://www.nelsonbc.ca/mactech_supprt_html/
imac_hard_drive_replace/
imac_replace_hard_drive.html

I put it face down on a thick soft towel when I pulled the bottom off. It seemed like it was a little reluctant to pop off, but if you make sure the weight of the computer is not pressing on the bottom of the shell near the CD slot when you pull the bottom off it should pop off just by pulling it (of course after unscrewing the screws listed in the instructions at the link enclosed.)

The only thing I didn't see mentioned was this
wire with a clear rubber flap on the end, but you
could see it in the pictures, and I think it's the
Airport antenna, so I just left it flopping around
where I found it.

yes the loose wire is for the airport antenna if you have an
airport card installed. Why do you need to open the imac
anyways? Its not the best idea...
