hi, we're doing a re-format of an older power pc with linux.

the installation requires that you do a clean install of the mac os software (in this case 0S8) and partition it in order to install linux.

so we did the install of os8, and after we did it the cd no longer reads disks.

anybody out there have any ideas why this is happening, or any suggestions for fixing it? many thanks.

The clones used cheap-ass CD-ROM drives that won't work with Apple's stock drivers.

If you use ResEdit to hack the driver, it'll work, or you can use something like FWB's CD-ROM Toolkit (which is what originally shipped on them). Directions at resexcellence.com.
