I have a mac 9500/132 but no video. Had a similar problem 5 months ago and the repairman told me it was either the logic board or the processor card. They replaced the processor card (to the tune of $325) and the machine was working fine. Now I'm having the same problem. I replaced the PRAM battery and that seemed to fix the problem for a week. But today, no video again. I reseated the video card and replaced the battery again but still no video. Help!

Try zapping the PRAM; if that doesn't work, I suspect your logic board.

And get a new Apple technician. $325 for a $5 eBay part is ludicrous.

How do you zap the PRAM?

Hold cmd-opt-P-R on startup.

OK, I held down the 4 keys upon startup. The video didn't magically turn on so I shut the computer off. Waited a couple of minutes and started up the computer again ... still no video.

The whole 8500/9500 line is sort of
fragile when it comes to opening the case
and doing any m/b things. The process of
getting the case open, getting the m/b out,
and putting the whole mess back
together definitely caused a lot of
problems ONTOP of whatever you were
looking to FIX due to the way the m/b was
sandwiched in there. It pretty much held
the sandwich together if you ask me, and
m/b's are not generally used as structural
members. M/B problem may be your
dilemma. I had mine replaced TWICE
(8500/120 under warranty!). The next
generation (8600+) was the dawn of that
great new design, and the G3's &
G4's.....well we can't say enough about
that leap forward.

When you held the Command, control &
r,p keys down did you wait until it chimed
4 times??? To reset the PRAM that's
what you gotta do.

No chiming is a bad sign.

Take out the PRAM battery. Leave the machine unplugged with the battery removed for 30 minutes. Reassemble and see if that helped.

OK, followed your instructions but still no chimes. I'm pretty frustrated. I live on an island in the South Pacific and don't have a lot of options when it comes to Mac techs. I'm also unemployed right now. Should I try to get a logic board on eBay and install it myself?

Isn't too difficult. If nothing else, you can learn along the way. Practise with the currently nonfunctional board first so you have the procedure down pat when the new board arrives :)

OK, I found a motherboard on eBay. Sounds sketchy though. Here's the description: I have for one Apple 9500/132 Power Mac Motherboard. Board is completely bare, no processor, no cache, no Ram. Board only contains good battery. Board has been tested & works fine when populated. $4.95 + s/h.

What do you think?

You can transfer all that over from your old board.

Well, I've been outbid on eBay three times for a 9500 motherboard. The winning prices have varied but over $40. Didn't know these things were so popular. I'll keep trying.
