Hi All, I just purchased a Blue & White tower from a third party that works great, however I can't hear a startup chime (the boing sound) when the computer starts up. Does this model have a startup sound? If so, how do I enable it? As a note, my speakers are working fine and I can hear sounds within Mac OS X, just not the startup sound. Also my speakers are not on mute.

Please try to reset PRAM (PermanentRAM) (where some config. attribs store)
To do this you must:
Restart your mac, and when the screen goes black you have to press OPTION+APPLE+P+R keys at the same time. Keep pressing untill you notice the Keyboard light turns on and then off. You may hear the tone at this point. If you do not hear tone you have any kind of problem in your logicboard (Mother)

Look in System Preferences (if you're using OS X) and see if there's a "Startup Sound" pref pane. This can be used to make the startup sound quieter, or to even switch it off altogether.

Actually PRAM is Parameter Ram. And can you hear the chime when you start up from a CD?
Summary: The above post is wrong. Period. There is no reason to do a clean install every time you install an OS, and the lack of a startup chime has nothing whatsoever to do with a "conflict with your old ope...
Summary: I don't have a MAC at all, but I've heard the Mac chime on a friend's mac, and I think it's cooler than the XP startup "chime." So, is there any site I can download the Mac chime in the WAVE format, s...
