Hello,
I have a Mac G4 OS 9.1. It used to be able to play music and all kind of sound but, out of the blue, it has stopped working. I have tried to find if there would be some kind error but no luck. Everything else is functioning normally, just no sound. I recently have installed Real player and QuickTime 5.0. Would they have affected sound in some way? Thanks a lot for any help or suggestion.
Are you sure you didn't accidentally "mute" the sound in the Sound control panel?
Also, if you have plugged anything into the audio out port, it will mute internal speakers.
I suggest you fool around with the sound control panel and make sure you have the right settings. Quicktime and RealPlayer would not mute your sound -- it's much more likely to be a bad setting or hardware that isn't working right. Do you use external speakers?
