Okay, this is a very strange problem. So I decided to lock all my system prefs so they could not be changed. Anyway, when I went to unlock one of the options I was not allowed! I finally figured out that I am not an admin, but a "Standard" user. I went into the Accounts pane in the system preferences and found that I am the only user, and not an admin! Now I bought this mac brand new about a year ago and when I was setting it up for the first time I did a few screwy things with my user account but I can't totally remember. Anyway, is there any way to fix this issue? I still have my Leopard DVD I used to upgrade with, so what can I do??
Ok, well I figured it out all on my own, so I thought I would post a follow up if anyone else had the same problem.
So I inserted the Leopard install disk and got up to the point where you "agree" with the terms and conditions, but you really don't need to go that far. If you click "Utilities" in the menu bar you can find a tool in there that enables the root user. Simply insert a password and restart and login as "Other" in the login screen and for the user name type "root" and the password you previously entered. Then go give the other account admin rights. That's all!
