CPU/Ram: classic II, B&W
Comment:

Ok I just stumbled across a Mac Classic II. I wondering if I can get this thing on the internet via dial-up or internet...Is it possible? Affordable?
This is my 1st Mac. I'm also wondering if I can use my external parallel port CD drive for the mac (Micro solutions bantam backpack)?
How about a serial port 56k modem? (cendyne I think)?
I also have this odd little device that converts a serial port to a USB (early) but the software is windows only..
What is the best path to take with my new toy?

Thanks :)

You can get the specs here;

The CD drive won't work on it.
Serial to USB also won't work on this machine.
You can look on ebay.com for an older Serial modem if
you want to get it on line.

I found the specs for it. So looks like I have some compatability issues...do you know if a 56k cendyne(serial) will work on this thing...? NetBSD is starting to look pretty good.

where does a person get a CD drive for one of these things? I did some looking around on the net for them, and it seems that Mac compatable CD-rom drives (SCSI) are in the $100+ range. Is there a cheaper alternative?

You should be able to get a mac scsi cd rom, it has to be a mac so it will be bootable from cd. Check you local mac user group or computer recycle place. you can also find an old scsci case to put it in. I do volunteer work for crc.org so check to see if if you have one in your town.

wow, i have 6 of the classic 2's.. given to me by the local computer recycler.. from what i've seen getting one of these online is more of a novel idea because they are so slow.. using it to do email would be better.. not webmail.. the graphics on webpages will come up at a crawl.. i have one of these setup as my alarm clock.. you can get much faster macs for only a few bucks.. if your familiar w/ old pc's this would be like a 286.. pre-windows.. here's a couple links that may be helpful...
this is the best..
