Have you enabled sharing or shared folders in WinXP?
You have to have that turned on or it will not show on
the Mac.
The Win box will not see the Mac either if you do not
have sharing enabled on the Mac.

Use Samba. If you're on OS X I believe it
should be there (I don't know if it's
installed by default though).

Samba is a Unix/Linux software used to allow
Unix-based computers to connect to and be
seen by Windows. I've got a BSD box running
it and have no problems transfering files
between it and my Windows box.

I am having exact same problem... Please help. I cannot see the PC with Win XP on the MAC or viceversa and when I ping both machine can comunicate... I also tried following the directions in the MAC 10.2.6 help session "Connecting to a windows computer from a MAC" but it did not work. One thing that is confusing in those directions is the following statement:

"If you don't see the computer, type the DNS name or IP address for the computer in the Address text using this format: smb://ComputerName.CompanyName.com"

Well, it does not make sense to me, first of all, that if you would use an ip address the format would look like that, and second, my computer has a name, but what is the company name supposed to be?

Someone please help us...

Thanks a lot,
Antonio

On your windows machine, make sure that your
Workgroup name is WORKGROUP. This is the default
workgroup name for the Samba service. However,
you can install a System Preferences pane that lets
you change this default if you must. Here's a link to
the project on Version Tracker: http://

Hope this helps.
