I just bought a PC in addition to my Mac, but I can't seem to figure out how to network them together. Both are connected through Ethernet into an ethernet hub, but I just don't know how to config the XP box. I could use Samba to get back and forth between them, but it would be nice if there was an easier way.... for instance to map the OS X drive like an external? Anyone able to help with this?

Provided you've got both machine's IPs set up you should have no problems. With 10.3's built in sharing protocols, you should be able to access both machines quite easily.

The first thing you should do is check which router you've got and phone them to get the IP address for that router. Then if it's connected to the ethernmet port n The Mac they will give you instructions on how to install the right IP address. Then connecting The PC. PC's don't come with ethernet ports. So you have to either get a etherfast card put in or use a USB to ethernet adapter and connect it to the router, I put an etherfast card into my PC. The external modem provided by my phone provider is connected to my ethernet router so the Mac and PC are on-line together using a seprate line provided by my phone provider. My phone provider supplied tthe modem and line free of charge, home use. I hope this was partyly helpful.
