I connected my mac to a hub but the light on the hub doesn't turn on. My other networked computers do make each port on the hub light up so I'm sure my hub is fine.
My tcp/ip configurations are all set in Mac OS 7.5.3 under System/Control Panel/TCP/IP
Connect via: Ethernet
Configure: Manually
IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, and Name Server are set properly as my other clients are networked. But the light on the hub just won't light up and nothing (ping, ftp, http..etc) seems to be working?
I come to suspect that maybe the integrated ethernet on board is somehow disabled. How do I go about checking this? Is there a jumper on the motherboard to enable or disable ethernet? Or is there some type of BIOS (sorry.. I'm influenced by PC's) or any software setting I need to make in order to have ethernet come alive!?
ps: This is a Powermac 7500/100.

Plug the machine into a different port on
the hub and see if it lights.Check the Ethernet adapter you're using
on the AAUI port on the 7500, could be
bad.

Sorry. It turned out that it wasn't a mac issue after all. My Intel InBusiness 4-Port Fast Hub doesn't support 10 base T. Only 100 baseT. So only 10/100 ethernet cards can hook up to it. But a dedicated 10 baseT ethernet card isn't compatible with my hub.. sigh..
The term you guys used (10BaseT) rang a bell.. so the response did help me solve this. Thanks guys. Had I known about 10/100 Switches in the past.. I would have never bought a hub.
