Network Time Server

My Imac OS 9.0.4 tells me I cannot use a network time server. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what a network time sever is and wheter or not it is something important to my computer functioning properly. I have the date and time on my tool bar....just can't use the network time server, whatever that is.

Hi there...
A time server is, as the name sugegsts, a server that is dedicated to telling other clients what time it is. This is important for large networks that has to be in sync, but has no critical effect on tour iMac as long as you are happy. You probably just have checked the box for use of time server for date and time, and will just have to switch it of in the date/time preferences...
