You might try creating a reduced
extension set to use while gaming. Go to
Control Panels>Extensions Manager and
duplicate the set you're running on, which
will likely be titled "My Settings." Then, in
the duplicate you've created, disable
control panels and extensions you won't
need while gaming, for example, printer
extensions. Restart with the new set to
test it; if you have system problems, start
up while holding down the shift key( this
turns all extensions off) and adjust the
new set. Sometimes, if you don't know
your system well, it takes a little tweeking
to get a good reduced set. A set
minimized/optimized for gaming may free
up a few MB of RAM.

The easiest thing to do would just be to buy more RAM. PC100 or PC133 SDRAM is *very* cheap at the moment (not as cheap as it was a month ago, but still very inexpensive), so just head over to RAMseeker.com or dealram.com and check out the deals on RAM. I'd recommend getting at least 256MB.
