Product: MacBook
Comment:

I have a 7 month old MacBook, purchased new. About a
week ago, I downloaded Limewire to get a few Beatles
songs... (I know it's bad, but itunes doesn't have the
Beatles!). Being the complete moron that I am, I trusted
my friend's word that this was a smart thing to do. I
downloaded something odd, that itunes did not recognize
as a song. A day later, my ipod lost all of its memory (I
didn't accidentally restore it. I was walking down the
street singing Hey Jude, and then Poof! 3,000 songs
erased off my ipod). Now, my MacBook battery will not
charge. My computer says "no batteries available, and the
battery icon on the screen has an x through it). The light
on my battery plug is green, and if I disconnect it, my
computer immediately shuts off. The genius friend who
advised me on LimeWire says I probably downloaded a
root kit? But I'm clearly finished taking his advise. I erased
all the songs and Limewire software. Someone, please
help a Mac Moron (I have AppleCare, but I don't think it
protects against being an idiot).
Thank you!

Try resetting the SMC (it controls the power on your
MacBook).

If that doesn't work, your battery may be dead. Take it to an
Apple store or call AppleCare, you'll likely get a replacement.

It's more likely the 2 problems are just a coincidence. But it's
possible you got a root kit, just highly unlikely. If you're
worried, I'd reinstall the system.

I agree about reinstalling...if the trouble is as bad as it
appears..
Limewire is safe..but the files available while searching on
it are getting worse and worse..sometimes nothing but
suspicious files will show up in a search.
Incidentally, i'm pretty sure that iTunes will have the entire
beatlles catalog soon, unless theyre not covered in it's
new deal to make the entire EMI catalog available in DRM
free format...

Try starting the computer while the apple key (key to the right and left of the space bar) and the letter s is depressed at the same time. This screen will permit you to scan and repair some kinds of problems. The command is listed several lines above the command line... type in the command exactly as it is shown (spaces included) and see what comes up. good luck
