hi!

i want to get a mac, but i can't afford a really new and fast one. all i need it for is checking the news, my mail, and word processing. there is one i found on ebay that has these specs:

* Color: Blue
* Operating System: OS X 10.4.8
* Processor: 400MHz CPU
* Memory: 320MB RAM
* Hard Drive: 13GB
* Media: Slot load CD-ROM drive
* Includes keyboard, and mouse.

it's only like $100, and it seems to have everything i need.

is it a good one for the price? i don't care about a warranty. all i know is that i want a mac, and i can't afford a new one, or a faster one

Right you are if you think you are

About middle of the road for a machine like that, not great,
but not terribly high either.

I'd check the shipping costs, those iMacs are heavy and you
don't want to get stuck with a large shipping fee.

well, the shipping was cheap, and it's coming from NY to ontario, canada. so, i figure it was a good buy. plus the thing looks way cooler than all my beige boxes here! :D

it'll brighten up the place

i just bought two powerbook 5300 cs for 40 dollars dropped to the door. keep in mind they are 100mHz, 8mb systems, but also keep in mind that apple's actual bus speed has made these systems hum, and they are officially supported through Os9.

if you want to get into the world of Mac, try an emulator, apple offers system 7 for free, and it is a good introduction to .sit .hqx and .dmg files, and you can run your 'apple' on your PC through programs like basilisk.

just a thought...

either way, good luck with your new computer!

There is room enough for two.

I'd say it's an OK deal...but I'd install 10.3 as Tiger would
be awful slow on it.
I'm still using a G3 450 MH (with Panther) and it works
just great..I only wish I'd been able to get it for 100 bills...

if all you do is news, email word processing. thats perfect. and don;t be fooled by the 400Mhz Apples PowerPC processors run at 3-4 times faster at any clock speed than Intels processors so thats like getting a PC with a hefty 1.6Ghz processor, thats a powerful machine for that awesome price, if were buying it offer at least 300 bucks for it.

well thank you very much! i do think 100 bucks is a really good price. i actually found an extra 256mb ram stick and a 40gb hard drive. i can upgrade this thing to 512mb ram and a 40gb 7200rpm hard drive.

i think it'll run good. a good buy!
