If there's a firewall blocking it, there's probably a good reason for blocking it, or at least your network admins think so. You should check with them. If they're blocking it on purpose, you shouldn't be using it. If they're blocking it by accident, I'm sure they'd like to know about it.
See if you can use a different port to communicate with the server - the setting for this ought to be in the preferences.
