I have MS Word 98 running on an iMac with OS 8.6 and all of a sudden Word is creating lots and lots of temporary file that are jamming up the harddrive. It has also recently started throwing 'Error Type 2' at me while in Word. Both of these problems can be solved by restarting but can anyone suggest a more permanent solution?

Not-so-helpful answer: use WordPerfect 3.5e instead. It's faster, smaller, and much less intrusive. Oh, and it's free.

More-helpful answer: upgrade to OS 9.2.1 and make sure you haven't installed any strange software lately. An extension conflict is certainly a possibility. If you don't want to upgrade to OS 9 for whatever reason, get AutoPurge (check www.versiontracker.com) and use that religiously.
