I'm not too familiar with macs, but The monitor size on the screen is way too big and changing the settings by the knobs on the monitor doesnt shrink it enough, how do i fix this.

When I looked at the subject line, I was quite amused, because I was wondering who would complain about having a really large monitor. I think your problem is more along the lines of "monitor resolution too low."
Go to the Apple menu, Control Panels, Monitors.
Set the resolution higher, probably to 1024x768 or so.
See if that helps. You'll probably have to re-adjust those front-panel controls again.

Sounds like your monitor itself has a problem then. My guess would be a problem with the horizontal and/or vertical deflection circuitry, and you'll need a professional to fix it. It'll cost more to fix than it will to buy a new monitor in most cases.
