I have and old mac IIsi and my old monitor(15 inch) is toast. I bought a 14 inch that has speakers built in. on back both have the same year of manuf. I also have the special adapter needed for the IIsi's. I can only get the screen for a little bit and its black and white. then it goes black. by accident I found that I could unplug the cable and plug it in and the screen would be back for a bit. did this a bunch of times and reloaded the OS to see if I was missing the driver needed for the monitor but still no go. I did notice on old monitor it has rate of 50-60 hz and the new has onl 60 hz. Any help would be appreciated.

Figure out what the two monitors are (model numbers or names would be good), read the info about the IIci/IIsi video systems in the FAQ link under my name, check the voltage on your PRAM battery, and get back to us.
Eureka!!! I had purged all software except the system files and the monitor stayed on, still B/W but on and then reloaded all the system software as a clean install. Then removed old systemfile and was able to pull up a monitor file that previosly couldn't and whala !! it works just fine. Thanks for the help!!
