from terminal, if one types in "su" it asks for a root
password... now... i certainly have no recollection
of creating a root account, nor am i able to modify
the account from the users control panel. I
understand that this is something that Unix
automatically sets up in its OS... but how come i
have a password?i tried typing in nothing as the pw, i tried typing the
current user's pw with no avail... even possible
other passwords that i have used. Nothing. how
do i access the root directory from terminal if i dont
have the damned password that i didnt create?!?!thanks in advance
aj

Apple seems to be following Microsoft's "Assume
user has a roomy skull" ideology :-). Coming to
the point..most commands you need root access
for will run using the sudo command (e.g sudo rm
-r * ...dont try this at home :-)) ) ..and the password
is the same as the password of any of your normal
logins with admin permissions. If you really really need to login as root then head
over here..

106290Call me stupid..but i kinda like the security that
sudo provides:-).
