Hi,
I have a performa 6290cd, and I'm trying
to install the most recent version of
mklinux on my computer. The online
documentation says that my computer
should work with mklinux. The
instructions tell me to put mklinux booter
and mach_server in the extensions,
mklinux in the control panels, and lilo.conf
and the mklinux.pref in the preferences
folder. I restart, and it asks: "Boot macos
or mklinux" . When I click mklinux, it says
system booting, and freezes. However,
when I put the same files in the same
folders on a G4, it loads a black screen,
and if I have the installer CD in, it installs
mklinux, but it doesn't seem to work on
the performa. I have 24mb's of RAM (the
instructions say i onlye need 8) and
1.1gb's of HD space (the instructions say
i need 500mb). I partitioned my disk
correctly with pdisk, yet it still doesn't boot.
However, if Virtual memory is turned off, it
says "not enough memory" when I try to
boot mklinux. Does anybody know what I
can do to fix this?steven

Unless they specifically say mklinux has been working on an x200 series, I rather doubt it'll work, because the x200s were horribly proprietary and very poorly designed. Get an x500 mobo for it (55 or 6500) and you should have MUCH better luck, although you'll probably have to use a different Linux distro.
