I'm having trouble with Macs accessing and using resources on a Windows 2003 server. They can authenticate. They can see shares and traverse folders and see the files they have access to but cannot use the files or copy them to a desktop. Same user can do whatever on a PC. What gives?

I'm having the exact same problem here. I have one Mac connecting to a Win2k3 SBS domain controller that has a drive shared with EVERYONE access. The Mac can see the server, connect to the shares, and look around--but when it comes to copying or saving files, forget. Sorry I don't have more information in terms of the OS on the Mac or the specific error codes, but can anyone shed any light on this issue.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin and Don,

At least you guys are ahead of me. I have one Mac OS X 10.3.4 client on my network, and I cannot get him to connect to my SBS 2003 server. According to the Small Business Server 2003's Administrative handbook, Mac OS 10.3.x and above have out-of-the-box support for connecting to Windows file shares. The procedure to connect to a share is as follows: In the Finder window, choose the Go menu, and choose Connect to Server. For the server's address, enter smb://domain;servername/share (for me this is smb://company.lan;companysrv1/public). After entering this information, the SMB/CIFS File System Authentication window appears, and it has correctly pulled in my domain's name (company.lan). It is asking for a username and a password. I have created this user an account on the server, so I enter his username and password, but it says one of them is incorrect. I know I am entering the information correctly. I then read an article that said the password should be less than 8 characters, so I changed his password to 6 characters. I still receive the same error message. Any ideas?
